The Season's of Our Lives

Time is flying by and summer will be turning to fall very soon...I already see some leaves falling and it is a hot August in Georgia.  My Mother always told my husband and me in August that fall was in the air because the leaves were beginning to fall from the trees....we used to laugh at that statement and then we started paying attention...she is right...the leaves do begin to fall in August and in no time fall will be here.

I hope you have had a great summer...swimming, skiing, or just doing all the fun things there are to do in the summer while the kids are out of school...my husband (Tony) and I have had the pleasure of going to the beach with my daughter (Lisa) and her family....watching the children play in the ocean and the sand was great...brought back many memories of my childhood.

As a very young chid my family visited Tybee Beach which is about 30 miles from Savannah, GA every year.  My family rented "Ms Mills Boarding House" and my grandparents on my Daddy's side (Fredricka and Bill Zimmerman),  my Daddy's sister (Elizabeth Z. Murry) and bother (Harold Zimmerman) and their famies would all stay there with us...we had so much fun playing in the ocean, building sand castles, and much more.  I remember in the late afternoon we would go to an area that was not crowded with people and tied chicken necks to the end of a ball of  twine.  We would then cast them out in the ocean and gradually roll the ball of string in and just about evey time there would be a Blue Crab either with his claws/pinchers attached to the chicken neck or simply following it.  We would scoop it up with a net and place them in a bushel basket...we kids had so much fun watching with excitement and fear of these strange creatures and were always praying we did not get pinched by their claws.  Those little "buggers" would be placed in a hugh pot of bowling water and would become our supper..  From the top floor veranda as we sat in the rocking chairs we could see the beautiful sunset over the ocean as the wind gently blew the palm trees just next to where we stayed...

Years ago..there was not as much sand on the beach and we had to walk down steep steps to get to the ocean.  The pier that is there now is very nice, but I loved the old pier that had the open skating rink that was over the ocean...I would skate four hours....was so sorry when it burned down.

Yes..the boarding house has been replaced by a hotel and the pier was rebuilt and is very nice, but there is no skating rink!  Guess you call that progress!

I sure do miss those times...but so glad  I have those memories...
